What Happened During the Great American Solar Eclipse is a multimedia installation, combining animation, microscope photography, storytelling, and film documentation of the eclipse of 2017. Exploring a mythical zone between the deep sea and deep space, the project references the Siphonophore, an ocean creature that appears to be a single organism, but each specimen is in fact a colony composed of small symbiotic individual animals called zooids that have their own special function for survival. This installation imagines these organisms as radical models for future human communities.
